Facilitating Children’s Speech, Language and Communication
Services
I am a speech pathologist with a special interest in autism assessments for children and teenagers aged 2-16 years. I work with numerous highly experienced psychologists, specialist ASD assessors and paediatricians to ensure best practice and a thorough diagnostic process.
-
In Western Australia, a referral is required from your paediatrician for an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment. A speech pathologist and psychologist specialising in ASD will complete the ASD assessment. My role is to conduct part of the Clinical Interview (DSM5) and administer the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale - 2 (ADOS-2). This is considered the Gold Standard Assessment tool for ASD. The assessment can be conducted separately, or on the same day with the psychologist.
-
My assessments cover:
Speech sounds
Understanding of language (Receptive language)
Sentences and grammar (Expressive language)
Play skills
Social communication (How your child engages with others)
Assessments can range from informal play-based assessment to formal (standardised) assessments.
-
A second opinion helps ensure nothing is missed and your child receives accurate diagnosis and treatment.
